Sulu understood Jack's situation and feelings more than he could ever say. There was no way Sulu could promise they would fix this, not really, and there was no way to convince Jack that he should believe anything he was saying. But he understood the feeling behind everything Jack was saying and, more than anything, he could understand the determination Jack was showing him now. Even if Jack couldn't believe they could fix it, he believed that they could try. And he knew how Jack would feel if this didn't work out.

"I know," he said, as sincerely and firmly as possible, "I know we can't, and we won't. I don't care what we have to do. I promise you, Jack, I'm not giving this up until I've tried everything."
