[RL WITH JEEVES AND WOOSTER]

Ianto and Jack sat on the one stones outside the fountain at the center of the Millennium Center, waiting for Jeeves and Bertie Wooster to arrive. Much to Jack's chagrin, Ianto wouldn't let them wait on the invisible lift for the two men to appear--they were supposed to meet them there, not sneak up on them. It might have fit perfectly within Jack's style, but Ianto liked to be a lot more honest and up front with people, especially with prospective friends.

Ianto secretly wondered if this outing was going to count as a double date. He hadn't done anything like that since high school, or at least early university, but he didn't dare ask Jack. He still was a little wary of the fact that Jack was so much more experienced than him. Ianto liked to know everything he could about situations he was in, but he was finding out more and more that with Jack there were no answers, and though the surprises were pleasant, sometimes Ianto'd really prefer if he knew just what the hell was going on with the two of them.

"Shouldn't they be here by now?" Jack asked impatiently.

Ianto looked at his watch. "There's only a minute until 6:00," Ianto said in response. "I'm sure that Mr. Jeeves won't allow them to arrive any time other than the agreed one." He glanced over at Jack. "Be patient," he said, condescendingly. "It's not like you're ever on time, come to think of it." Jack made a face at him, but didn't disagree that fact.

((OOC: So, I figure the replying order should roughly go Jack/Ianto, Jeeves, Bertie, so as not to be too confusing, considering there are four of them. Anyway, enjoy~! I know I will. 8D))

I feel like going 'whoo' for being first. :p XD

"Well, a lot of my chums are involved in the arts in some shape or style. Actors, painters, poets, novelists, singers, those sorts of folk. Everywhere else there always seems to be a lot of fuss over that sort of thing, but in the entertainment crowd..." he shrugged. "I don't know. I guess it's a bit strange, but...the people I know, that I consider my friends, they don't seem to care one way or the other, as long as you're not screaming it at them. Still, it pays to be cautious, you can never be entirely sure what a person thinks on the matter until you say something. The real threat is blackmail, really. Someone who doesn't like you finds out, and holds it over your head." He looked down, a sad look crossing his features.

"I've decided that I can't tell my friends. I don't think any of them would mind, actually, we all were at Eton, after all. But not a one of them is terribly good at keeping their lips sealed."

He brightened, suddenly. "But as for the skin bit. Might as well be comfortable, what? It's not like they're selling new ones at the corner shop!"

No, really, no one has. You're the first! 8D

Jack chuckled. "Well, no. I don't think Ianto wants to trade being himself. He's just so young still, only 26, and he has no idea what to do with himself. It's really quite sweet, actually," he said, smiling. "It's not in me to hold back so much, though. 51st century was a bit open. No labels or categories to have to fit into, and I think that's really his problem, categories." Ianto was an archivist that couldn't categorize himself, and was therefore struggling, Jack imagined.

"Anyway, enough about me," Jack said, waving his hand in front of his face. "Bertie, what do you like to do with your time? You mentioned actors, painters, poets? Funny you should say that. I've known a few men of that sort. Christopher Isherwood, for one, but you wouldn't know him yet. Marcel Proust, though, I'd imagine you'd be familiar with--great kisser. Didn't last, though; he was really immature. And insufferably miserable. 'Only in suffering do we realize beauty,' I mean, really?"

"Oh, Jeeves, what has become of you? He did mention earlier that he was a timetraveler, if in a roundabout way..." Bertie frowned slightly, unsure of himself.

Jack smiled faintly, looking down at his hands clasped in front of him on the table. "Yep, Proust," he said. "As for how long I've lived..." He glanced up at Jeeves, a dark, foreign look in his eye. "Too long," he said with a secretive smile, "but at the same time, not long enough."

Ianto returned at that moment with drinks, before anyone could question Jack's answer anymore. He handed them out to everyone, before sitting down next to Jack. "Sorry it took so long," Ianto apologized, "the bartender seems to be training someone new. We were just lucky that none of our orders were too difficult to make."

Bertie lifted his own glass with a smile, but his expression completely transformed to one of wonder at the strange music.

"My word...what is that?" he murmured.

Jack laughed, grinning. "That, my friend, is an electric guitar and an electric base, mixed with a drum set and a set of four of the most famous singers there have been up to this point."

"It's the Beatles," Ianto said, clarifying. "They were a popular rock band a while back. That's what this music style is called, rock music."

"'The Beatles'....what a strange name for a group! And is it called 'rock' because that is what you are inclined to do with your head as it's playing? I say, I think I rather like it!" Catching onto the refrain, he sang along,

"Oh, how could I dance, with another, oh!

When I saw you standing there, Jeeves?" He offered a cheeky grin to his valet.

"You know, this brings to my mind a tune I heard quite awhile back. Let's see...it went something like, "My man rocks me, with one steady roll~....Ain't no slippin', when he wants take hold~!" and then I forget the rest. Something to due about what time it was. My Aunt A. was not too pleased with me when I came home one day singing that." he said, with a bright smile.

"It wasn't unpleasant, actually. She couldn't stand me any longer, and shipped me to Aunt Dahlia. I sang the song to her upon her request, she startled all the wildlife within a five-mile radius with her laughter, and we've been close ever since! It may be my favorite tune," he said. He grinned bright and wide.

Ianto smiled at Bertie's words. For all that the man was a little eccentric, his stories were interesting and Ianto had no doubt that they were completely true as well. "I have to say, Mr. Wooster, sir, your Aunts sound like quite the characters."

At that moment, the beginning vocals of Elvis's "Jail House Rock" started up over the sound system. "Say, Bertie," Jack said with a smirk, "Ianto here's turned me down before, so I know not to ask him, but how'd you care to do the twist with me?"

"It's a dance step, to clarify," Ianto said, wanting to shoot down any innuendo that Jack may have implied.

[identity profile] callmebertie.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, all right! Just don't get your expectations too high, what? That is, if it's all right with you, Jeeves...say! How about you dance with Ianto? He's an excellent dancer, Ianto. Very light on his feet. Then we can switch later! Once we have the swing of it. Now, how does it go?"

"All right then!" Bertie exclaimed, not even aware of the mild drama.

He did catch Ianto's comment, and he actually let out a chuckle. "You'll soon see that I'm not exactly the dancing type, either, Ianto. I just have trouble sitting still."

"So, how does this twist thingummy work?"

Jack led them a little further out onto the dance floor. "Alright, I'm not an expert, but I guess my twist is alright," he said. "Watch and learn." Jack bent his arms at the elbow and held them out to the side while he bent his knees and twisted his hips, rotating on the balls of his feet. It quickly became apparent that Jack was more than 'alright' at the twist. "C'mon, Bertie," he said, grinning, "join in, you try it!"

"Bloody show off," Ianto said, watching Jack from the table, but smiling at the man's antics. "I appreciate your understanding, sir," he continued, turning back to face Jeeves. "The last time I danced with anyone was with Jack at Gwen's wedding, but that was, er, a bit of a different scene than this one."
